USC sophomore Kaitlyn Dobler avenged her runner-up end on the 2021 NCAA Championships with a lifetime-best time of 56.93 to win the crown this time round. It was Virginia senior Alexis Wenger who set the tempo from the outset, turning first on the 25 and on the 50 (26.66). Dobler was in second place, .14 behind Wenger and .17 forward of defending champion Sophie Hansson of NC State.
